More Owen

I know I just posted about Owen, but he did something over the weekend that was so cute and funny that I have to share again. We were out in the yard working (yay, that it's finally getting warm enough to do that) when I came across a worm. I asked Owen if he wanted it. He did. After a few minutes of playing and talking to the worm (I wasn't really listening to what he was saying to the worm at this point) Owen says to me, "Mom, I asked the worm if he wanted to be my friend and he said yes! So I think I'm going to call him DeeDee." I was totally laughing. So for the next 15 minutes Owen played with DeeDee in the dirt. I now was listening to what he was saying to the worm. Here are some things I heard: "DeeDee, do you like this hole for your house? Where do you want to live Deed? I think we should build another house over here Deed. What do you like to eat Deed?" It was so funny and cute that he would name his worm DeeDee and then automatically give him the nickname Deed. I thought that was pretty smart. The fun came to and end when DeeDee had been handled so much that he died. Having DeeDee for a friend was fun, for all of us, while it lasted.

Owen

This morning I asked Owen if he could make his bed. He said he could and without any help. I heard him in there for about 5 minutes bumping into the wall, so I knew he was working hard to do a good job. When I went in to check his progress this is what I found. He did such a good job I thought I would share.

While I'm sharing things about Owen here are a few more:

***This afternoon Owen and I went out to get the mail. He pulled the mail out of the mail box and a Geico flyer fell on the ground. He picked it up and said, "Hey it's from Deico. It saves you money!"

***Lately when I tell Owen that I love him, he responds by saying, "I like you, mommy."

***The other day Jason, teasing Owen, told him that he was going to kick his bum. Owen replied, "Please don't kick my butt. OK?"

***The last time it snowed Owen and I drove over to my sisters's house. When we got out of the car he said, "Mommy, look at all this fresh snow." I later came to realize he learned that phrase from Max and Ruby, which is one of his favorite shows. We have 31 episodes recorded and every morning he asks for specific episodes.

Owen is becoming quite the smart, funny little boy. He makes me laugh so much. He's growing up so fast, that he's not a baby anymore. But he still does love to snuggle with me.

Nacho!

Jason brought these "nacho" masks back from Mexico for the boys. They love them. But Zach and Ryan seem to think that once they put them on, it gives them an excuse to fight (without shirts).

Off Track mini-vacay

Last week while Jason was trekking with his buddies in rural Mexico, sleeping on bunkbeads in the slums, having taco eating contests and watching his friends vomit (I'll have Jason give more details in another post), I decided to take the kids on an adventure of our own. We packed up the car and headed off to visit Jason's sister Jamie and her family in Boise! With 6 young, energetic kids it was chaotic most of the time, but we had fun and give a big thanks to Jamie and Mike for letting us stay with them. Some of the highlights :

***Passing for a polygamist family at the bowling alley: 1 male, 2 females and 6 kids!

***Getting a flat tire. Luckily it was while we were there and not while we were traveling. I was worried about something like that happening while traveling and not being able to fix it by myself. But the friendly guys at the local Big-O fixed it quickly and free of charge.

***Our cousin, Mason's, Hulk birthday party. The kids got to dress up as the Hulk and punch the pinata.

***Developing Hulk muscles. (Small green balloons stuffed into their shirts. Another fabulous party game.)

***A trip to the (way overpriced) specialty candy store. All the kids chose to get these long suckers. It was a good thing we took this picture right after we got out of the car because on the way into the house Zach stepped on Owen's shoelace and he fell, breaking his sucker into hundreds of small pieces.

***Sending the kids out to the hot tub, while the adults stayed inside to rest. Shouldn't it be the other way around?
